An initial flurry of interest in the lease of an old aircraft hangar at Dornoch airfield has petered out, the town’s community councillors have been told.

The 838 square foot, timber frame shed, located next to the grass airstrip at Dornoch links, was advertised for rental by Highland Council.

Rental was fixed at £3,000 per annum, although it was stated that a rent free period would be available to potential lessees.

The building does not have a mains electricity or water supply, but services are close to hand.

Highland Council suggested the property could be used for a “variety of purposes”.

But East Sutherland and Edderton ward councillor Jim McGillivray said at last week’s community council meeting: “Although there was early interest in the building, this did not translate into a firm offer. Highland Council is now looking for guidance from yourselves as to what the next step should be.”
