MP Drew Hendry is due to meet the transport minister Kevin Stewart over the A9.

Drew Hendry has said that he is due to meet transport minister Kevin Stewart to find out about “interim” safety measures on the A9 and how “the next steps in dualling can be moved forward with urgency.”

The meeting will have added impetus following the sad death of an 18-year-old on Friday in a crash at Dalmagarry – the latest fatality on the road notorious for such crashes.

Mr Hendry, who was heavily criticised for a Tweet thanking Mr Stewart’s predecessor for clarifying that the A9 dualling programme would miss its 2025 deadline now insists that work must be moved along at pace.

He said: “Our thoughts must be with the family of the young man and with the others affected. This tragic accident underlines why we need to keep progressing with safety measures on the A9.

"Whilst we don’t know the causes behind this event, we do know that work needs to be progressed to make the road as safe to use as possible, that includes moving forward with dualling the sections that still need to be done.

“I have been in constant contact with transport minister Kevin Stewart since his appointment and have a meeting already scheduled to work out how both interim safety measures and the next steps in dualling can be moved forward with urgency.”
