Hope Gordon - Olympic dreams

Seventeen-year-old Scottish Disability Swimmer Hope Gordon, from Rogart, has realised her long-held dream of being able to compete at this year’s Para Olympic trials in London.

When she took part in the Welsh National Long Course competitions in Swansea last month, she achieved three new Personal Bests – in the 50m, 100m and 400m freestyle – which she has now learned have enabled her to qualify for the trials.

The first of the two trials is in March in the new London Aquatic Centre, while the second will be in April at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

She is really excited about both events, but is especially looking forward to competing in The Aquatic Centre as it is going to be the swimming/diving home for both the Olympic and Para Olympic Games this year.

Hope, who was diagnosed with the rare neurological disorder Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy four years ago, is now looking for a sponsor as the cost of training and competing at this level are challenging.

If anyone feels that they can help in any way please contact her at west.langwell@tiscali.co.uk.
