Drivers could be seen doing a double-take - but it was all make believe in the interests of a film currently being shot in the area, starring acclaimed Hollywood actor Jamie Dornan (41).

Producers of the Nextflix crime noir series, The Undertow, decided that the Kylesku Bridge should double for the Skye Bridge.

Councillor Hugh Morrison, who represents the North, West and Central Sutherland ward, said: “It was really confusing, especially for tourists. They must have thought they had taken the wrong turn and were not on the mainland of Scotland, but on the Isle of Skye!”

It was not the first time the filmmakers had indulged in a bit of deception. In the early days of filming, the Shorehouse Restaurant at Tarbet Pier was transformed into a tourist centre called Bagh nan Dobhran and a new surf shop was built nearby.

Fifty Shades of Grey actor Jamie Dornan, who also starred in The Tourist, was nowhere to be seen when filming began, but he was very much in evidence last week.

He was spotted at Kylesku on Thursday dressed as a fisherman and sporting designer glasses. But not in keeping with the sunny weather, he was on set wearing a woolly jumper and work trousers.

Dornan plays identical twins Adam and Lee who are estranged from each other.

Adam’s loveless marriage to Nicola, played by Mackenzie Davis, is threatened when Lee comes back into their lives. The three have a tangled romantic past.

After Adam dies in a terrible accident, Nicola and Lee try to convince police that Lee died instead of his brother. They struggle to maintain a web of secret and lies.

The film also stars Scottish actor Gary Lewis, best known for his roles in films such as Billy Elliot, Joyeux Noël, Gangs of New York and Eragon as well as major roles in the television docudrama Supervolcano and the Starz series Outlander.

Filming began last month in Kinlochbervie last month and will continue on the Isle of Mull. Producers said the locations had been chosen for their “breathtaking beauty”.

The Undertow is due for release next year and is based on the Nordisk Film Production AS television series, Twin.
