Higland Council flags up wintry state of roads and asks motorists to take care

MOTORISTS and pedestrians have been urged to take care after overnight snow and sleet left many routes in a treacherous condition.
Highland Council has reported "a real mix of conditions" in many parts of the region, amid a continuing Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and ice.
Snow has caused problems on higher routes, while freezing rain and sleet has left black ice in many other locations where snow is not a problem.
Drivers are being warned that they face a "real mixture of conditions" in Lochalsh and Wester Ross, with icy roads away from the coast, and snow and sleet causing slippery conditions on the higher routes – sparking the council to say that "caution is advised when travelling".
Meanwhile, over in Easter Ross and the Black Isle, it warned that "very icy conditions [are] affecting all roads throughout the area.
Elsewhere in the Highlands, a number of Sutherland and Caithness roads are being plagued by black ice thanks to rain and sleet falling onto already frozen surfaces.
To the south there is snow on the higher routes of Nairn-shire, while an inch of wet snow has been reported on high roads around the Inverness area.
Badenoch and Strathspey, meanwhile, is reporting "snow across all roads", while Lochaber is said to be "extremely icy".
The UK Met Office currently has a yellow warning for further snow and ice across the Highlands, and another one (covering Caithness, Sutherland, parts of Ross-shire, the Black Isle, Inverness, and further south and east) will run into Friday.
