A rural Highland village is gearing up to host a brand-new micro music festival, with “hard to beat” views of the north-west Highland coast as the backdrop to the weekend.

Altandhu, four miles north of Achiltibuie and an hour’s drive from Ullapool, will be the host of the brand new Made in Altandhu Micro Festival, taking place from August 30 to September 1.

Taking place at Port a Bhaigh Campsite, the three-day event will feature 13 acts in a range of genres, including: rock, contemporary, rhythm and blues, Americana and homegrown talents too.

With interest high, organisers recommend booking tickets early, as there is a maximum capacity of 350 within the event marquee.

An organiser said: “While there are many bigger festivals taking place; for unspoiled views, glorious scenery and getting away from the maddening crowds it’s hard to beat the Made in Altandhu Micro Festival. Our festival is taking place on the coast of the beautiful north-west Highlands, with the Achiltibuie Summer Isles as the stunning backdrop.

“We have something for everyone — and with a host of exceptional tribute acts also on the lineup, there’s ample opportunity for favourite sing-a-longs!”

One of the highly-anticipated acts is rock-folk singer-songwriter Kate Taylor, the sister of the legendary James Taylor.

Kate said: “I am so excited to be coming back to my ancestral home, Scotland, to play with the amazing bass player Alan Thomson, from John Martyn’s band, at the Made in Altandhu Micro Festival! I look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones – see you all there!”

Welsh ‘70s rock band, Man, are also set to play at the first ever instalment of the Wester Ross event.

Bass player and vocalist for Man, Martin Ace, said: “Looking forward to The Made in Altandhu festival! This will be the furthest north we’ve been since Wick in 1978, when Malcolm Morley was playing with Wreckless Eric on the Be Stiff tour. I was cultural advisor on that one!”

A three-day ticket for the festival costs £162.80 (including fees), with a single day ticket costing £66 (including fees).
