A ROSS-SHIRE roads police officer has issued a warning on drug-driving after three people were caught.

One of the incidents was in the Dingwall area, according to the Highlands and Islands Division of Police Scotland.

Sergeant David Miller from the Road Policing Division in Dingwall made his remarks after three people were charged.

He said: "Driving whilst under the influence of drugs or alcohol is a serious offence and the dangers are well known.

"To see that three people were caught drug driving within a short period of time in the Inverness and Dingwall areas yesterday is disappointing.

"The actions of people willing to risk drug driving are extremely selfish and it puts innocent road users, as well as themselves, at risk. Officers from Police Scotland attend far too many fatal and serious collisions where drink or drug driving has been the main causation factor in the collision and the sad reality is that these collisions are avoidable if people didn't drink or drug drive.

"If you are caught drug or drink driving, you will be charged and potentially could lose your licence, vehicle and livelihood. Is that really a risk worth taking?

"Officers from Police Scotland will continue to patrol our roads network and communities to keep people safe by targeting drug and drink drivers. I would urge anyone with information about drug or drink drivers to contact us - it really could save a life."
