Highland MSP Emma Roddick hails quick progress of Sutherland Spaceport after visit
Highlands & Islands MSP, Emma Roddick met with representatives of orbital launch services company Orbex in Tongue on Wednesday, to see the progress on the Sutherland Spaceport.
The spaceport, which was granted planning permission in 2020, will be the first spaceport on the British mainland capable of vertical rocket launches.

There are three locations involved in the project in Scotland including Sutherland, Forres, and Kinloss.
Speaking on the on the opportunities it brings, Ms Roddick said: “It was fantastic to get along to Tongue this week to speak with the team at Orbex about how the Sutherland Spaceport is progressing.
“Progress is moving quickly with the infrastructure beginning to be put in place to get the launchpad all set up, and the team is working hard to get the spaceport going.
“I’m now really looking forward to getting along to Forres next to see how things are going with the next step of building the rockets. Orbex is working on all aspects of this projects, including at three locations in Scotland.
“This is such an exciting project for the space sector not only in the Highlands, but also for Scotland, considering we now have multiple spaceport projects in progress.
“I’m really excited to continue following along with this project and seeing the success of the first launch in Sutherland next year.”
