AN online shop has ‘gone live’ to showcase the many crafters, makers and artists who live in the Highlands and Islands.

Harriet Fletcher, who set up Highland Hiddle, said she wanted to launch the website when she realised how many crafters in the area had not found a strong platform to sell their unique works after she moved to the region.

The website is now the shop window for 30 people from across the patch.

Ms Fletcher, from Kyle of Lochalsh, said: “Highland Hiddle is hidden no more and we are thrilled to announce the launch of our fully functioning e-commerce website.

“The launch of this entirely new and exclusive marketplace for the crafters, makers and artists of the Scottish Highlands and Islands follows an intensive three month period of careful research, planning and the input of the very best regionally-based technical expertise.

“Highland Hiddle brings together the region’s crafting community; from the Outer Hebrides, to Caithness; from Moray Firth to Argyll. It will provide greater visibility and a dedicated showcase for the products being made in the Scottish Highlands and Islands, which are both special and original. In particular, Highland Hiddle connects buyers who want a more sustainably made, high-quality product, with small, independent makers who would otherwise be harder to find.”

She continued: “I couldn’t be happier with the response from crafters, makers and artists from across the region as well as the support we’ve received from the community.

“We already have 30 wonderful sellers who make a diverse range of beautiful products – everything from a cheese slicer to original paintings and sculptures. We also have a lot more crafters and artists waiting to sign up.”

One of the sellers, Gill Thompson, an artist based on the Isle of Lewis, said: “Highland Hiddle opens doors for artists and makers who are embracing the need to sell their work online.”
