The selfless volunteer had earlier been named community champion of the year.

Johanna Geddes picked up the top Hero of Heroes accolade for her tireless work with the Boys Brigade in over 40 years of service to her Thurso based group.

Despite the difficulties of the pandemic Johanna and her team of dedicated volunteers managed to keep their troop busy through online activities – including a virtual camp out.

Now that restrictions have eased the troop hopes to return to live events such as mountain biking , games, cooking and much more.

Her community work attracted the attention of the Highland Heroes event and saw her scoop the top award at the event at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness last night.

Speaking after being called up to the stage twice in quick succession for her brace of trophies she said: “It means a lot. It really does.

“It's put Thurso on the map – the birthplace of the founder of the Boys Brigade.

“It means a lot for me and my family and for my officers and their boys.

“It really is just an honour for all of them.

“To win this award is unreal.”

Johanna’s nomination said: “Johanna has worked tirelessly for the community for over 40 years.

"She has been a lifeline in running Zoom Boys Brigade during lockdown.

"It’s not easy keeping the momentum going online but Johanna and her team have.”
