Just over a year after launching its seaweed snack range in the UK, Highland snack producer Shore has now secured a major export deal to supply its seaweed chips to Belgium.

From November, its lightly salted and sweet sriracha flavours will go on sale in up to 300 Delhaize supermarkets.

Keith Paterson, joint managing director of Shore, said export was a key part of the firm's strategy, so he was delighted to be able to make news of the deal with the major retailer public.

“Delhaize is one of the leading retailers in Benelux and provides an excellent platform for further growth in export," he said.

"Our products have all the key elements required to be successful in export markets; strong provenance, a clear point of difference, sustainable credentials and of course, a brand that builds on Scotland’s excellent global food reputation.”

Shore Seaweed Chips are made from sustainably sourced seaweed harvested in Caithness and processed at Shore's Wick factory.

Packed with nutrients, including iodine and prebiotic fibre, which stimulates the produvction of nutrients in the gut, Shore's seaweed snacks also contain antioxidants and plant-based protein, giving them what Shore says is "superfood status".

Since the UK launch in 2020, Shore’s Seaweed Chips have already won a number of industry awards, including a Gold Free From... Food Award and the best snacking product title at the World Food Innovation Awards. They have also been awarded with a Great Taste Award, a leading stamp of approval from industry experts on flavour.

Mr Paterson added: “At Shore, our mission is to create an edible seaweed industry of scale in Scotland that is one hundred per cent sustainable, good for the coastal environment and beneficial for our local rural communities."
