Good causes in the Highlands looking for inspiration to boost income can attend a major networking event in Inverness next week.

Hosted by Social Investment Scotland (SIS), the Eden Court Theatre meet-up is designed to give leaders of charities and social enterprises the kind of “lightbulb moments” they need by making new connections and identify fresh funding sources.

Described as a unique opportunity to meet experts and fund managers supporting Scotland’s third sector, the in-person event will run on Thursday, November 28 from 10am to 1pm.

It forms part of the responsible finance provider’s Funding Socials series, with guest speakers including Elaine Crichton and Tommy Seymour, fund managers at Inspiring Scotland.

They will be joined by James Turner, head of strengthening communities at Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and Marion MacNeil, development officer at Highland Third Sector Interface – an independent charity on a mission to support, encourage and inspire work with local community groups, clubs and charities.

Jaci Douglas, chief executive of Care and Learning Alliance (CALA) – the largest third sector early learning and childcare organisation in Highland and Moray – will also share personal experiences of securing funding for the organisation, developing new income streams and taking on social investment.

The session comprises a mix of presentations and group discussions, followed by networking opportunities over lunch.

Kieran Daly from SIS will be on hand throughout to answer any questions and explain the support and funds the organisation offers to charities and social enterprises.

Mr Daly, head of market building at Social Investment Scotland said: “This event aims to inspire the people running impactful social enterprises and charities to take the next steps in their growth journey.

“Income generation will be explored, with expert advice from the panel hopefully leading to a few lightbulb moments amongst the group, generating new ideas to discuss and take forward.

“This opportunity could be incredibly valuable for leaders in the Highlands and Islands, not only in terms of the support it could unlock, but also through new connections with sector peers.

“SIS strongly believes in the power of collaboration and access to finance in driving positive change in communities.

“By helping to build connections and signposting support avenues, we hope to inspire leaders to create even more of an impact across the region.”

Elaine Crichton, fund manager at Inspiring Scotland, said: “At Inspiring Scotland, we believe organisations tackling critical social issues deserve access to the expertise they need to thrive, and importantly to access this support when they need it, for free.

“Over the last 12 years Inspiring Scotland has matched skilled volunteers with charities throughout Scotland, including Care and Learning Alliance.

“CALA is a shining example of an organisation taking full advantage of all resources open to them to build resilience, sustainability and a strong future. We look forward to taking part in this event to share how more charities can make use of the services on offer."
