High Life Highland's active schools team is holding a virtual running challenge for primary school children this month.

The challenge is in place of the events, such as cross-country, the team would normally organise at this time of year but are unable to do so because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Local runs have been pinpointed in each area with a minimum distance to be covered by each age group.

Each active schools coordinator across Highland has created local runs in their area with a minimum distance to be covered by each age group. The minimum distance for P1-3 is 600m; P4-5 1200m and P6-7 1800m.

High Life Highland area sports development officer Jeni Herbert said: "Participants can complete the challenge in their own time in their own local area during the month of March"

Pupils interested in taking part can find more information and register at highlifehighland.com

The active schools team is keen to see as many primary aged children as possible from across the Highlands involved.

Ms Herbert said: "We are looking forward to seeing how everyone gets on and watching the leader board as the month goes on.

"Each pupil who completes a run and submits their entry, will receive an email certificate.

"We will also showcase the participation figures per primary school and school cluster and then award schools with the highest percentage of pupils taking part as our Active Highland Virtual Running Series champions."
