THIRTEEN new cases of Covid-19 have been detected in the NHS Highland area in the past 24 hours.

The cumulative number of cases recorded in the region since the start of the pandemic rose to 525 when the latest daily update was posted this afternoon.

The figure is up from 512 yesterday, and follows news last night of a cluster of cases linked to a Lochaber hotel .

Across Scotland there were 290 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

The number of people in Scottish hospitals with recently confirmed coronavirus rose by one to 52, but the proportion of those in intensive care fell by the same amount, to five.

There were also no new deaths reported among people who have tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, the Western Isles reported a new case of the virus, to take their overall total to 10. The Northern Isles saw their figures remain unchanged, however.

NHS Grampian recorded 13 new cases to take its overall cumulative total to 2055 since the start of the pandemic. And NHS Tayside added eight positive tests in the past 24 hours, to take its tally to 2333.
