A DAD and son who co-starred opposite Star Wars icon Harrison Ford for a quirky whisky campaign will be raising a dram for Father’s Day this weekend.

The dynamic duo, who work at Tain’s Glenmorangie Distillery, featured with the Hollywood superstar in the Highland single malt whisky’s brand campaign in a series of films that proved a hit worldwide.

Alan Duff Snr and his son Alan Duff Jnr’s surreal experience are now inviting whisky lovers of legal age to share a complimentary dram of Glenmorangie Original with their dads at the distillery this Sunday.

Ford is the central character in Glenmorangie’s Once Upon a Time in Scotland brand film, which takes an irreverent, sideways look at traditional whisky advertising. With gentle humour, it tells the story of the Hollywood actor reluctantly shooting a campaign in Easter Ross for the brand.

Despite his many misgivings, Ford is eventually won over by Glenmorangie’s whisky, its craft and the people who make it – including distillery workers Alan Sr and Alan Jnr.

The father and son, who have almost 40 years of experience at Glenmorangie between them, have enchanted viewers with their cameos throughout the film’s 12 episodes.

The pair’s subtle Highland wit and obvious rapport with Ford, shine through in several memorable scenes, ideal, the company said this week, for watching together on Father’s Day (Sunday, June 15) with a glass of the distillery’s signature whisky, The Original.

In The Campaign (episode 2), Ford arrives at the distillery. After mistaking “Alan from the Warehouse” (Alan Jnr) for “Alan from marketing”, he gets a lesson from Alan on how to pronounce Glenmorangie correctly, then heads off with a bottle of The Original.

In The Distillery (episode 5), Ford meets the whole production team. “Ahhhh…he’s your fault,” he says to Alan Snr, who stands next to his son. Then Ford jokingly instructs Alan Jnr: “Look after me car.” It is a rare Eagle Speedster Jaguar E-type.

In Teamwork (episode 10), Alan Jnr introduces Ford to a particularly special whisky. Impressed by the distillery’s heritage and the craft, Ford raises his glass to toast “the good people of Glenmorangy”. With comic timing, Alan Jnr corrects him once again: “It’s Glenmorangie.”

While starring alongside Hollywood’s finest may have given the father and son a taste of fame, their feet remain firmly on the ground in their home town of Tain, near the Highland distillery.

Alan Duff Jnr, who first became inspired to work at Glenmorangie when dropping his dad’s lunch off years ago, said: “Filming with Harrison Ford was a lot of fun, but totally surreal.

“I was in awe watching him. Acting alongside him is something I’ll never forget, but I consider myself especially lucky to get to work with my dad every day.

“I hope whisky lovers of legal drinking age will join us at Glenmorangie Distillery for a complimentary dram of Glenmorangie Original with their dads this Father’s Day – and perhaps have a laugh at a few episodes of Once Upon a Time in Scotland together too.”

Ross-shire Journal crossword crackers aged 18 and over have the chance to win a bottle of the 10-year-old The Original every week. The competition is sponsored by the company. The puzzle can be found on the letters page of our print and e-edition every week.
