Halkirk and Reay pupils delighted to meet Britain’s tallest man
Halkirk Primary School pupils had to look high in the sky last week to see a VIP visitor – Britain's tallest man.
Paul Sturgess, who wears size 19 shoes, towered over staff and pupils at the incredible height of 7ft plus 7.26 inches. Paul played for the famous Harlem Globetrotters and holds two Guinness World Records – the “World’s Tallest Professional Basketball Player” and “Britain’s Tallest Man”.
Halkirk children were joined by pupils from Reay Primary School and were filled with "great excitement" on the day and were said to have "all thoroughly enjoyed the experience".
Paul is an inspirational speaker who has embraced his height and shared the message that we should be happy with our differences and uniqueness.
He led a whole school assembly and inspired both children and adults with his positive outlook on life and by celebrating and accepting our differences.
Paul also took each class to the school gym hall and taught them some basketball skills, along with the Harlem Globetrotters signature trick of spinning a basketball on your finger.
The school commented: “Pupils and staff from both Halkirk and Reay primaries had the most fantastic day with Paul.
"It was great to have such a famous person in our midst, who above all was so inspiring and kind. Paul was so generous with his time and included everyone throughout the day.
"We will remember the day for a long time and would like to thank Paul very much for coming so far north to spend the day with us and leave us with some amazing memories and food for thought!”
Paul is also a successful actor having appeared in a number of films and TV programmes including Avatar 2, Lord of the Rings, Fantastic Beasts, Doctor Who, the Jonathon Ross Show, the Michael McIntyre Show and various others. He has just recently finished filming Deadpool 3.
