‘Growing collaboration’ with Highland Council key as community ‘comes together’ for Dornoch town tidies
Dornoch BID has hailed the continued success of its monthly Town Tidies, which have been running for the past six months giving the town centre a “visible lift”, while “strengthening community bonds, bringing together volunteers, and enhancing the town’s beautiful appearance.”
At the sixth event earlier this month, volunteers of all ages joined forces to tidy the streets, with local businessman Ewan MacLeod (Hi Safe) stepping in to sponsor safety clothing.
Participants are now kitted out with Hi Safe vests and gloves, ensuring they stay warm and visible through the autumn and winter.
“These monthly gatherings are a celebration of civic pride and a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together,” said Sharon Mackay, manager of Dornoch BID.
Support from Highland Council has also been key, with waste bags, often numbering as many as 70, being collected promptly the following morning as part of “growing collaboration” with the local authority.
The tidy-ups have also become a launchpad for the new “We Are Dornoch” campaign, a crowdfunding drive aimed at supporting “visible, meaningful improvements” across the town.
Since its launch at August’s Town Tidy, the appeal has already raised £954.
“The launch of We Are Dornoch has added real momentum to our efforts, and the generosity shown, both in time and donations, speaks volumes about the pride we all share in this community,” said Ginny Knox, chair of Dornoch BID.
Residents, businesses and visitors are invited to contribute by lending a hand or making donations.
A QR code will be displayed on posters around town, with updates shared on the This Is Dornoch Facebook page.
From October, the Town Tidies will move to a new slot the first Saturday of each month from 2pm to 3.30pm, weather permitting.
