AN alert over a grounded yacht beneath the Kessock Bridge prompted a callout for a nearby lifeboat crew.

The Thursday evening alert involved calls to both Inverness Coastguard Rescue team and RNLI Kessock.

The Kessock lifeboat crew was paged at 6.08pm yesterday evening and requested to launch by the Coastguard to assess the situation of the yacht.

Helm, Douglas Munro, said: “Upon swiftly arriving at the location of the vessel I assessed the situation and made the decision that undertaking a tow was necessary as the safest way to assist the casualty vessel’s crew.

“As low tide approached the towed vessel was escorted to the nearest safe and suitable port of Inverness Marina.”

The Atlantic 85 lifeboat then returned to station and was refuelled, washed down and made ready for service by 7.35pm.

The operation was hailed an example of good teamwork with HM Coastguard – Highland.

HM Coastguard Highland posted: "Good job and everyone safe."
