Good turnout for Sutherland Agricultural Show
Around 5000 people are said to have enjoyed the Sutherland Agricultural Show last Saturday, with the weather remaining largely fine for most of the day.
Entrance figures were at the “upper edge of average”, said Ewan Cameron, president of Sutherland Agricultural Society, which organises the annual event.
Mr Cameron said the show, which dates back to 1951, had been extremely successful overall with a good number of entries, particularly in the livestock sections.
“We were pleased to welcome several new exhibitors who had never been to the show before,” he said. “And it was good to see an increase in the number of entries.”
“Exhibitors came from far and wide, particularly in the Shetland sheep section where people travelled from as far away as Edinburgh. They are certainly prepared to put in the miles.”
He continued: “All in all it was a great weekend but a lot of work for a small band of volunteers.”
The star attraction in the ring was a thrilling display of freestyle tricks, jumps and apparatus stunts by a cycle stunt team.
The society will hold a dinner and awards ceremony in October when the winners will receive their trophies.
