Ullapool fish landings enjoy a good month
Fish landings at Ullapool enjoyed significant increases in both value and tonnage in April, compared to the same month last year.
Figures from the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) show the tonnage landed at Ullapool in April of this year totalled 1481, compared to 1340 for the same month in 2024 - an 11 per cent increase.
Cash amount raised for April 2025 stood at £3.257 million, compared to £2.654 million the previous year, an increase of almost a quarter, at 23 per cent.
There were only small changes for Scotland as a whole on the month to month comparison, with tonnage landed down five per cent to 20,763 but the value up very slightly to just under £31.6 million (from £1.4 million in 2024).
That is a little worse than the UK totals, which were a one per cent increase in value but a one per cent fall in tonnage.
Scotland accounted for 62 per cent of the UK value and 74 per cent of the tonnage of fish landed.
Peterhead is by far the busiest fishing port in the UK, accounting for a massive 29 per cent of the total Scottish value and 18 per cent of the total UK value in April.
The tonnage shares were 37 per cent of the Scottish total and 27 per cent of the UK.
However, April was a disappointing month for Peterhead with a massive 46 per cent fall in the tonnage compared with April 2024 and a 10 per cent fall in the value.
