Good causes in Sutherland benefit from 2024 Pinky Col memorial golf contest funds
Funds raised at an annual charity golf day, usually held at Royal Dornoch Golf Club, have been distributed, organisers have announced.
A total of £4340 raised at this year’s Pinky Col Invitational has been donated to four good causes in Sutherland.
The money raised is split between the overall winner of the competition and the PCI. Each then chooses one or more charities to donate to.
This year’s winner was Jim Oliver, from Rogart, who donated his entire £2000 prize to the Cambusavie Unit at the Lawson Memorial Hospital in Golspie.
Ingrid Murray, who helps organise the PCI, said: “The managers of the Cambusavie Unit were delighted to receive the money, which they will use to purchase patient transfer scales. These will make weighing and transferring patients much easier for the staff and more comfortable for the patients.”
The PCI donated £1000 to East Sutherland Rescue Association (ESRA); £1000 to Dornoch Beach Wheelchairs; £200 to the Gift Project; and £140 to Dornoch Cathedral.
Ingrid said: “ESRA is a very worthy cause, and the members are unsung heroes who volunteer their time to save the lives of others in the most gruelling conditions at sea, often putting their own lives at risk to the process.
“The Gift Project provides essential clothing and toiletries to women, children, and young people being supported by Caithness and Sutherland Women’s Aid.
“We decided to donate money to the cathedral to help towards the maintenance of this precious building in our town.”
A record 86 golfers took part in the 2024 PCI, which is held the day after Dornoch Highland Gathering in memory of the late Alexander Campbell and his nephew Stuart Campbell, who both died at a young age.
The PCI is a fun event where participants dress in pink and compete for a variety of prizes.
