As the world counts down to the Tokyo Olympics, Tain's Glenmorangie Distillery is celebrating a gold medal haul of its own.

The Highland whisky maker collected 20 gold or outstanding gold medals at the 2021 International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) and the International Spirits Challenge (ISC), including a ISC double gold for The Accord 12-year-old malt, which also won a IWSC gold medal.

The distillery also brought back a further 16 silver medals from the two competitions, which celebrate and bring together the very best products in the spirits industry with up to 90 countries represented.

Glenmorangie’s travel retail range, which includes The Accord, was awarded a number of gold outstanding and gold awards across the two competitions. An IWSC Gold Outstanding medal was awarded to The Tribute, Glenmorangie’s 16-year-old whisky created from a heritage spirit batch, while Glenmorangie Signet Ristretto, with its deep undercurrents of coffee and waves of extra dark chocolate, celebrated a Gold Outstanding award at the IWSC and a Gold award at the ISC.

However, Highland whisky fans might have to go a long way to enjoy its taste. Limited to only 1500 bottles, the expression has been released exclusively at the Glenmorangie Signet boutique in South Korea’s Incheon Airport.

Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s director of distilling, whisky creation and whisky stocks, said: “We are delighted that the Glenmorangie travel retail whiskies have received this clutch of awards from the prestigious IWSC and ISC. This is a testament to the outstanding whiskies crafted at Glenmorangie Distillery. The total number of double golds awarded in the ISC this year was only three per cent, which makes these commendations even more pleasing. These bold, velvety single malts are simply delicious drams.”
