THE funeral of an Easter Ross man tragically killed in a workplace accident in Shetland will take place this week.

Liam Macdonald (23), of Tain, died after an accident on June 5 at the construction site in the Upper Kergord area.

His funeral will take place this Friday (June 17) at Tain Parish Church at 10.30am.

Liam, of Craighill Terrace, is survived by his mother Wendy Robson and his sister, Lauren.

He is described in a funeral notice as a dearly loved grandson of Ally and Rosaline and Willie and Babs and "loved by all extended family and friends".

The funeral service will be held in Tain Parish Church on Friday, June 17 at 10.30 am. Liam will be laid to rest at St. Duthus New Cemetery in Tain.

On the funeral notice, Alasdair Rhind said that flowers can be sent to the funeral. Donations will be open during the service and they will go to support Liam's cousin Gracey with medical expenses.

A fundraiser was organised by Tain and Fearn Free Church of Scotland, raising almost £5000 in support of the family in just a week.

Reverend Alasdair MacAulay said: "Nothing is going to change what they are going through, but we hope that this will help at least take some of the pressure away.

"There were many donations from within our congregation but we also received support from outwith our community.

"Donations will remain open to whoever wants to contribute."

Liam was identified by Police Scotland after the accident at the Shetland wind farm site. An investigation has been launched following his tragic death.

The Viking site, is one of two operated by BAM Nuttall in the Kergord area.

Ian Parish, executive director at BAM Nuttall said: “Liam Macdonald’s death on our site in Kergord, Shetland on Sunday is a tragedy which came as devastating news to me and to everyone at BAM.

"My foremost thoughts are for Liam’s family, and his friends and colleagues. My words will provide no comfort at this time, but we will support them in any way we can.

"Hearing the news of Liam’s death on Sunday was an extremely sad moment for all of us. We owe it to all those who knew him to find out about what happened. We will do that in cooperation with our client SSE and with the relevant authorities.”
