An ambitious north-west Sutherland ecological restoration initiative has been dealt a funding blow after their multi-million pound application to the Endangered Landscape Programme (ELP) was turned down.
North West Regenerate, a collaborative project involving various community groups, local development trusts, and community, private and environmental landowners, were hoping to fund projects to restore habitats, build skills for nature-based jobs, and promote the connection between people and nature.
A spokesperson for the group said: "Unfortunately an application to secure multi-million pound Endangered Landscape Programme (ELP) funding has not been successful.
"ELP is a highly competitive funding programme that supports projects across Europe and we are encouraged to have been one of only fourteen applicants approved to submit a detailed application.
"This is a welcome recognition of both the need and opportunity for ecological restoration in the north-west Highlands.
"The ELP application process has helped to bring ideas together with a focus on embedding the project in local communities to create genuine and lasting change.
"We will continue to seek opportunities for funding to further develop the proposal and work towards achieving our vision.
"We would like to thank everyone across the region who has contributed to the project by sharing their views and ideas, and we will continue to engage with local communities as our work progresses."
