Covid-19 update.

MORE than 600 people are now being treated in Scottish hospitals for Covid-19 – after another 31 were hospitalised for the virus in the past day.

The fresh rise in hospital admissions came as Scotland detected another 1351 cases of the virus – with 14 of those positive tests being reported in the NHS Highland area.

Nationally, there was also a rise in the number of people in intensive care, which increased to 51 from 49.

And, sadly, another 13 people who have tested positive for the virus have died.

The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases detected in the NHS Highland area now stands at 842 following today's update.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new infections reported in NHS Eileanan Siar, NHS Shetland or NHS Orkney.

But another 39 positive tests were recorded in NHS Grampian – taking its cumulative total to 2855.

And NHS Tayside saw its overall number of cases jump to 3124, after another 77 people were confirmed as having the virus.

There have now been 44,036 positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland since the pandemic first began.
