Fourteen new coronavirus cases in NHS Highland area

FOURTEEN new Covid-19 infections have been detected across the NHS Highland region.

The region's cumulative number of cases rose from 1357 to 1371 when the latest daily update was published at 2pm.

There were 880 new positive tests for the coronavirus across Scotland in the past day.

Some 1161 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed Covid-19 ­– down 36 on the previous day.

The number of people requiring intensive care treatment remained unchanged at 84.

But sadly, a further 44 people who tested positive for the virus have subsequently died.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland there were no new cases in NHS Eileanan Siar, NHS Shetland or NHS Orkney.

One-hundred-and-twenty-two new positive tests were recorded in NHS Grampian, which saw its cumulative total rise to 4477 from 4355 – the third largest increase in Scotland in the past 24 hours.

And NHS Tayside saw its overall total increase by 58 to 5618.

There have been 90,961 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across Scotland since the start of the pandemic.
