Volunteers, coaches and players of St Duthus Football Club will be donning their aprons and soup ladles on Thursday as they prepare to host an evening of “Soup and Sandwiches with the Saints”.

The Tain club is inviting members of the public to “come in out of the cold” for a bite to eat – free of charge – to enjoy a “warm space” and some company this Christmas.

The club hopes its festive soup kitchen can help to spread some festive cheer while “giving something back” to the community, its chairman Niall Harkiss says.

“The community in Tain has been fantastic to us all year round, as it always is,” he said. “We feel it’s only right that we give something back.

“We want to create a warm space for people at this time of year. It’s an opportunity for shoppers to come in out of the cold after picking up the last of their Christmas gifts, or for anyone who might otherwise be sat at home to pop in for a bowl of soup.

“To anyone who might be sitting at home alone at this time of year, we invite you to come along and have a soup and a sandwich on us, and enjoy a chat and some company.”

Soup and Sandwiches with the Saints will be open between 4pm and 7pm at Lodge St Duthus on Manse Street next Thursday, December 19.

Donations will be welcomed in aid of funds to be split between mental health charity Mikeysline and the club’s senior and youth teams.
