A volunteer-run trad, folk and roots promoter is inviting members of the east Sutherland community to sample an afternoon music concert in Embo this Sunday.

Presented by Sutherland Sessions, the folk trio of Megan MacDonald, Chloë Bryce and Calum McIlroy will bring their own unique blend of fiddle, accordion, guitar, and their voices to present an array of dynamic tunes and delicate songs at the Old School Embo.

MacDonald (Eabhal, HEISK), Bryce and McIlroy (BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician 2024) are now based in Glasgow, but hail from Lairg, Tain, and Aberdeenshire respectively.

All three have performed extensively across Scotland and beyond, appearing at internationally renowned events including Festival Interceltique de Lorient, National Celtic Festival of Australia, and Celtic Connections, where they won Battle of the Folk Bands in 2024.

Event organiser Sutherland Sessions, a not-for-profit organisation based in east Sutherland, was formed eight years ago and is currently run by a committee of nine members.

A spokesperson for the volunteer-run group said: “We aim to bring musicians promoting trad, folk and roots music in eclectic venues around East Sutherland. We have relied on our growing audience members who have showed fantastic support over the years and attend regularly.”

Tickets for the concert this Sunday October 20 at 3pm are available on Eventbrite at chloemegancalum.eventbrite.co.uk and are priced £14, £10 conc, £5 for 12-18 year olds and free for under-12s.
