The verdict: “Fat cattle met another firm enquiry, so don’t be swayed on the sale average showing less on the week. The drop is due to more weight being around today therefore the gross pounds per head is up. More are required on a weekly basis to fulfill the buyers' demand.”

Old season lambs (34) averaged 209.7p (+16.2p) and sold to 228.0p per kg and £122 gross for a pen of 53.5kg Texel crosses from Little Kildrummie, Nairn.

Feeding sheep (253) sold to £215 gross for a pair of Texel ewes from Keepers Cottage, Tomatin.

The verdict: “A less than satisfying number of lambs forward cashed in at dearer rates on the week. Buyers returned home being unbale to satisfy order books. Get amongst your lambs and cash them whilst the trade is strong. The few hoggs that were around were handling better than the previous weeks show. Well-fleshed sorts were keenly bid for which is a phenomenal sign with it being so late in the season.

"A smaller and leaner show of ewes were on offer this week and trade followed the national trend in being a touch easier. Lean-meated export and continental types were the commodities most in demand as the festival is just around the corner but wouldn’t be the same bonanza of a trade we’ve witnessed in the last three weeks.”
