Fire crews successfully put out large wildfire near Kyle after more than a day

FIREFIGHTERS managed to put out a huge blaze that lasted for more than a day near the Kyle of Lochalsh.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service put a stop to the incident at 6:46am this morning after the alarm was raised on Wednesday at 10:20am.

Exhausted crews had been put on a rotation to manage the blaze which was mainly in the hills about Erbusaig north of Kyle.

Volunteer units attended from Cromarty and Spean Bridge, as well as nine other units from Kyle, Broadford, Portree, Dunvegan and Lochcarron.

The fire has no hotspots remaining and firefighters have left the scene.
