Organisers of Feis Chataibh are appealing for volunteers to help with the week-long festival of music and Gaelic culture, which runs from July 8-12.

The organisation celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and is arranging some extra musical treats to mark the milestone.

Normally held at Golspie Primary School, Feis Chataibh switches venues this year to Brora Primary School.

All 80 places - open to those aged from eight to 18 - have been snapped up.

Tuition is being offered in fiddle, guitar, pipes, Gaelic singing, whistle, mandolin, keyboard, percussion, drama, clarsach and arts and crafts as well as pipe band drumming.

Activities such as football and arts and crafts are being held in the evening and a movie night is also planned.

Wednesday sees the traditional tutors’ ceilidh at the primary school from 7pm-9pm at which the North Ceilidh Band will be playing; and there is the end of week concert on Friday evening.

Feis Chatabih chairwoman Elma Mackay said: “We would like anyone who has been involved in the feis over the years to come along to the tutors’ ceilidh. We’re planning a few things to celebrate our 30th.”

She added that volunteers were needed.

“We’re looking for people to help out, particularly at lunch-times,” she said. “If any family members of Feis students are available during the day or in the evening, then they would be very welcome. “
