Scottish Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing is flagging up to farmers that the deadline is nearing for submission of their 2020 Single Application Forms (SAF).

All applications must be completed by midnight next Friday, May 15.

The Single Application Form is the form farmers need to fill in if they want to claim payments under the following schemes: Basic Payment Scheme; Scottish Suckler Beef Support Scherme; Scottish Upland Sheep Support Scheme; Less Favoured Area Support Scheme; Agri-Environment Climate Scheme; Forestry Grant Scheme; Beef Efficiency Scheme; and Rural Development Contracts.

Mr Ewing said: “I am grateful to everyone who has responded to my earlier requests to submit early, and so far more than 10,000 single application forms have been received, which is ahead of application numbers at the same point last year.

"However, as in previous years, we expect to see a late surge in applications so if you need support I urge you to contact your area office now.

“For those who have yet to submit an application, I would encourage you to do so online.

"The online system has been specifically designed to make the process simple. Applications are automatically checked for errors, which reduces the risk of problems with payments and financial penalties.

"The system also enables farmers and land managers to access and update their information at a touch of a button.”
