News that the FIFA World Cup Play-Off Final will be shown on free-to-air television channels has been warmly welcomed.

Scotland on Wednesday face Ukraine for a place in the play-off final against Wales.

That crunch final fixture – which will determine which nation makes it to the FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar this November – will be shown on free-to-view TV channels STV, ITV and S4C.

The news has been warmly welcomed by Scottish Affairs Committee chairman, Pete Wishart MP.

He said: “It’s fantastic news today that the World Cup play-off will be free to view across the UK, following a deal struck between Sky and STV, ITV and S4C. Our committee pressed TV chiefs on this recently, and I am pleased that an agreement has been reached to allow this major football match to be enjoyed by even more people across the country.

"Best of luck to Scotland next Wednesday: I’ll be cheering on with many other Scots as they eye up the play-off match against Wales!”

Both fixtures promise nights of high emotions given the home nation interest and the worldwide sympathy fir Ukraine in the wake of its invasion by Russian.

Making it spicier still from a Scottish perspective, teams already through to Group B in the finals include England.

The FIFA World Cup Play-Off Final between Wales and Ukraine or Scotland will kick off at 5pm on Sunday, June 5, shown live on Sky Sports and free to air on ITV, STV and S4C.
