Over 90 visitors enjoyed refreshments and home baking as Historylinks Museum held an Open Doors Day to celebrate the heritage of Dornoch last weekend.

The Open Day event was the product of ‘Exploring Dornoch’s Heritage’, a project run by ARCH Highland earlier in the year, in which a group of 20 people from the local area met to share their personal memories and photographs.

The group researched buildings and locations in Dornoch to create a folder of resources and a photographic exhibition.

Project leaders from ARCH Highland were on hand at the Open Day on Saturday, October 12 to talk about the findings and the photographs prompted more discussion and the sharing of memories throughout the day.

The exhibition will be on display in Historylinks Heritage Hub until the end of October.

Plans are afoot to keep the research going as part of the museum’s Community Curation project, funded by Museums Galleries Scotland.

A Historylinks’ curator said: “We are delighted to be hosting this fantastic display created by the local community with ARCH Highland.

“Our staff and volunteers are looking forward to getting together with the group again to build on the project. Over the winter we plan to take a closer look at the hotels and school hostels.”

Members of the public with memories or photographs to add to the project are invited to get in touch with Historylinks.
