An ‘extremely dangerous’ rapist who carried out a string of sexual and violent crimes has been jailed for 12-and-a-half years.

Ryan MacDonald (31) committed the offences in the Sutherland, Inverness and Aberdeen areas between 2015 and 2020.

The charges included three counts of rape as well as a number of sexual assaults and an assault to injury.

He was found guilty following a trial at Inverness High Court and returned to court for sentencing on Friday.

Reacting to his sentencing, Police Scotland DI Reuben Lindsay said: “Ryan MacDonald is an extremely dangerous individual who subjected his victim to horrific sexual assaults and violence. He will now face the consequences.

“Police Scotland takes all reports of violence and sexual crime extremely seriously and we would urge anyone who has experienced this type of abuse to please come forward and make a report. Our specialist officers will listen to you and support you throughout the process and together we will bring the perpetrator to justice.”
