The EV Rally of Scotland (EVROS) - a rally featuring around 20 electric vehicles (EVs) - is set to hit Sutherland today.

The rally has been run to coincide with COP26.
The rally has been run to coincide with COP26.

EVROS is scheduled to stop at three “checkpoints” in the north and north west of the county this afternoon.

It will be at Scourie Bay View at around 3pm; at the tourist information centre car park in Durness at 3.45pm; and at the Kyle of Tongue causeway viewpoint at 4.45pm.

The rally, which is covering 1200 miles across the length and breadth of Scotland, set out from the Arnold Clark Innovation Centre, Glasgow, on Monday and is due to finish at Govan on Friday.

It coincides with COP26 in Glasgow and aims to show that EVs are not just suitable for short journeys in urban areas but are a fully viable alternative to traditional petrol and diesel vehicles.

Vehicle brands participating in the rally include Polestar, Maxus, Kia, and Stellantis (Citroen, Peugeot, DS, Vauxhall and Fiat).

Members of the public are invited to any of the checkpoints where they can meet the participants and drivers, including Edmund King OBE, president of the AA; and record-breaking EV adventurer Chris Ramsey of Plugin Adventures.

Organisers say that, due to the nature of the rally, the estimated times of arrival at each checkpoint are broad estimates.
