A Sutherland man threw eggs at a woman, causing her to suffer a cut above her eye.

John Cowie, from Strathy, was living in a house at Rockview Place, Helmsdale, when the incident happened on May 15.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that Cowie was walking past his victim's home as she came out of her front door.

Fiscal depute Martina Eastwood said the woman noticed Cowie was carrying eggs in his hand and appeared to be in a "rage".

She said: "He then threw them at her with some force and one struck her above the left eyebrow, causing a cut. She was very upset and distressed and the police were called."

Defence solicitor Laura-Jane McFarlane said: "There may be some mental health issues here and a background report would be useful."

Sentence was deferred until June 11 and Cowie, who admitted an assault charge, was released on bail with a condition not to enter Rockview Place.
