Edinburgh Sutherland Association announces beneficiaries of latest round of funding; More than £4k allocated to 11 good causes in county

The Edinburgh Sutherland Association is disbursing more than £4000 to 11 good causes in Sutherland in its latest round of funding.

Projects supported range from assisting a up-and-coming young mountain biker with the expenses of competing to providing funding to a cancer survivors' group for therapy and travel costs.

Causes across the county are benefitting.

In the last12 years, the Edinburgh Sutherland Association has raised and donated more than £27,000.

Association president Andrew Mackenzie, who hails from Stoer, said: "I am delighted we are again able to support good causes in the county and particularly pleased at the range of applicants this year, which allow us to donate to the west, north and east coast, as well as central Sutherland.

"This latest donation means that in 12 years we have raised and donated over £27,000. We understand the importance of the support we have been able to provide to groups and individuals in Sutherland and want to thank everyone who has assisted with events and fundraising to date.”

Association secretary Steven Anderson, of Dornoch, said: “I will be writing to applicants to confirm matters soon and Anne Macintosh (Skerray), our treasurer, will be in touch to make payment thereafter."

The latest beneficiaries are:

£617 - Go Golspie for an accessible eco picnic bench.

£500 - Lewis Duncan, Brora, to support costs of competing in a downhill mountain biking competition.

£500 - Lochinver Primary School Parent Council for new playground equipment.

£500 - Helmsdale and District Community Association for a PlaySPACE information board.

£444 - Joan Mackay's Cancer Survivors' Group, Bettyhill, for therapy and travel costs.

£320 - Community Care Assynt for a new sign for wellbeing centre.

£300 - Rosehall Primary School Parent Council towards it support for fruit and vegetable club.

£250 - Historylinks Museum, Dornoch to help support its Young Curators Club.

£250 - Lairg and District Learning Centre for its Our Story storyboard.

£250 - Sutherland Care Forum for a food box for Golspie

£200 - East Sutherland Canoe Club towards IT/laptop costs.

The Edinburgh Sutherland Association raises money through fundraising, donations and sponsorship.

Its objectives are to give assistance where required to natives of Sutherland and other deserving persons; aid the education of young natives of Sutherland; and promote the culture of Sutherland.
