A Dunbeath man drove while disqualified less than two months after being banned, Wick Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday.

Calum Steven (27) was banned for a year in January for a drink-driving offence.

Police stopped him on the A9 between Stirling and Scrabster on March 11 and discovered he shouldn’t have been driving.

Sheriff Neil Wilson called for a background report on Steven, of White Cottage, Auchorn Road, Dunbeath, and noted the short period between the accused’s previous ban and the subsequent offence.

The sheriff warned him: “This is a serious matter that can attract a prison sentence.”

Steven will be sentenced on September 4. He pleaded guilty and also admitted being uninsured.
