A GOLF fan from Rogart has carved out the perfect role for herself far from her native village.

Annie Marriott, whose maiden name was Corbett, and her husband Paul are volunteer marshals for major golf tournaments held in Dubai.

The work leads them to brush shoulders with the stars of the golfing world.

And the couple have been particularly busy lately as several major golf tournaments have taken place under the desert sun.

Annie and Paul relocated to Dubai some 20 years ago but she still retains a strong link with Rogart where her brother Lachie, niece Izzy and nephew Stewart live.

The pair are both avid golfers and jumped at the chance, offered by a friend, to become volunteer marshals 15 years ago at Emirates Golf Club in Dubai.

Since then they have worked at most of the major golf tournaments held at Emirates.

Marshals play a vital role in ensuring players are not disturbed during play, enforcing crowd control and golf etiquette among spectators, as well as locating errant shots.

Annie said: “It’s a nice way to get some exercise, enjoy the course and see some great golf at the same time. We also enjoy the opportunity to get up close and work with the players.”

Annie and Paul were marshalling from January 27-30 at the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic, held on the Majlis course at Emirates Golf Glub. The event was a European tour golf tournament.

They then went on to marshall at the inaugural Ras Al Khaimah Championship, presented by Phoenix Capital. The $2 million tournament took place at Al Hamra Golf Club at Ras Al Khaimah from February 3-6.

It is the first time the European Tour has visited Ras Al Khaimah, one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Annie told the Northern Times: “My role included marshalling for Colin Montgomery, Miguel Jimenez, Thomas Bjorn, Richard Bland, Danny Willett, David Law and Nikolai Hojgaard, who won the tournament."

Annie and Paul stayed on at Al Hamra Golf Club to marshall for another brand new tournament, the DP World Tour Ras Al Khaimah Classic, introduced following the postponement of the Quatar Masters.
