Drivers gear up for 2024 Gars Tractor Run

Around 60 tractor drivers have so far registered to take part in the 2024 Gars Tractor Run on Saturday, July 13.

But organiser Catherine Macangus is hopeful that number might yet match last year’s record-breaking figure of 100.

She said: “There are always drivers registering on the day itself so we could still get to 100 - last year’s run was outstanding.”

Ms Macangus added that there were more female drivers this year than in previous years, which she described as “amazing”.

The fundraising run is held in memory of her husband, Gary, who died, aged 53, in December 2013, just months after the inaugural run.

Since its inception the event has raised thousands of pounds for Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS) and local charities.

The run traditionally follows a 53-mile circular route starting and finishing in Dornoch and visiting a number of East Sutherland communities including Embo, Rogart, Lairg and Ardgay. There are several refreshments stops.

Ms Macangus said: “It’s a great sight to see and we cannot thank enough those who come out along the way to cheer the drivers.”
