Driver towing trailer caught at A9 speed trap
A driver from Wick has been fined and had his licence endorsed after failing to observe the speed restriction on his vehicle.
John Robertson, Hospital Road, was towing a trailer and therefore should have kept to 50mph, Tain Sheriff Court was told yesterday.
But instead a police speed trap recorded him going at 77mph.
Thirty-one-year-old Mr Robertson was not present when the case against him called and did not have legal representation.
But procurator fiscal depute David Morton said he had pleaded guilty by letter to a contravention of the Road Traffic Act on the trunk road at Pitmaduthie by Nigg, Easter Ross.
The incident happened on Friday, June 26.
Mr Morton said: “It simply so happened that on this date road policing officers were checking speeds at the Pitmaduthie location.”
The fiscal depute added: “It was just coming up to noon when Mr Robertson appeared.”
Sheriff Gary Aitken imposed a £400 fine and topped it with a £20 victim’s surcharge
In addition Sheriff Aitken endorsed Robertson’s licence by a total of four penalty points.
