A young Sutherland driver is to contest a charge of using a hand-held mobile phone while driving.

Kevin Ross (21) was due to go on trial at Wick Sheriff Court on Tuesday but "a medical matter involving an essential witness" prevented his attendance and meant that proceedings had to be postponed.

Ross, of Golval Farm, Forsinard, pleaded not guilty and will now stand trial on January 31.

The offence is alleged to have occurred on May 4, on the A836 at the West Murkle junction, near Castletown.
