MORE than 800 cases of coronavirus have now been detected in the NHS Highland area after a further 12 positive tests were recorded.

The cumulative number of positive tests reported in the health board area since the start of the pandemic rose from 795 to 807 in the past 24 hours.

Some 961 new cases of Covid-19 were detected across the whole of Scotland in the past 24 hours – or 17.1 per cent of all those newly-tested.

The number of people hospitalised with coronavirus continued its recent rise – up another 38 to 487 last night.

Of those, 36 were receiving treatment in intensive care – up one on the previous day.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland there was one new case of coronavirus in NHS Eileanan Siar – taking its total to 58 – but no fresh diagnoses were made in NHS Shetland or NHS Orkney.

However, there were 35 new cases in NHS Grampian, which saw its total rise to 2719.

And NHS Tayside saw its cumulative tally rise to 2935 after it recorded a further 45 new cases.

There have now been 39,959 positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland since the beginning of the pandemic.
