An acclaimed independent whisky bottler from Dornoch hailed their success in two top categories at the 2024 Online Scotch Whisky Awards (OSWAs) as a “reflection of the trust and appreciation of our community”.

Thompson Bros took home the titles of Best Independent Bottler and Best Blend for the second year in a row after members of the public voted on their favourite bottlings, blends, and brands.

The OSWAs are unique in the whisky industry for being a truly community-driven awards platform. Unlike traditional industry awards, the OSWAs invite whisky enthusiasts from around the world to vote, making it one of the most democratic and widely anticipated awards in the industry.

The Dornoch brother pairing, who own and operate Dornoch Distillery on the grounds of Dornoch Castle, received a green light from Scottish Ministers last November to build a £7 million, eco-friendly distillery complex at Dornoch.

The new facility is expected to boast a production capacity of 200,000 litres of pure alcohol per year, two new bonded warehouses, a low-lying solar farm and a visitor centre/shop.

Winning the title of Best Independent Bottler, Thompson Bros were noted for their dedication to sourcing, selecting, and bottling “exceptional” casks that express the true character and diversity of Scotch whisky.

The award for Best Blend also went to Thompson Bros’ acclaimed blended Scotch - TB/BSW Aged over 6 Years, praised for its balance, depth, and complexity.

The blend is a testament to the firm’s commitment to crafting blends that honour both tradition and modernity.

Co-founders and brothers Simon and Philip Thompson said it was an honour to receive recognition from whisky lovers.

“To receive these awards by public vote is incredibly meaningful to us,” they said. “It’s an honour to know that our work resonates with the people who matter most — the whisky lovers themselves.

“These awards are a reflection of the trust and appreciation of our community, and we couldn’t be more grateful.”
