Dornoch set to get yellow lines as Highland Council moves to crack down on indiscriminate parking

Highland Council is set to crack down on uncontrolled and indiscriminate parking in Dornoch.

As the roads authority, the council is in the final stages of designing an ‘experimental traffic regulation order’ for the town.

This follows concerns raised by Dornoch Community Council and local residents about haphazard parking.

A particular bone of contention is parking on the pavement next to the Co-op supermarket in the town centre.

A Highland Council spokesperson said: “The reason for installing the order is to allow for the enforcement of parking restrictions and encourage considerate and safe parking in Dornoch.

“Lining and signage are included in the current planning process. The order is in the final design stages.”

The spokesperson added: “An experimental traffic order can remain in force for up to 18 months before it must be made permanent if the restrictions are to be retained.

“The use of an experimental traffic order allows for changes to be made to the restrictions in the first six months allowing for adjustment to what was initially installed based on community feedback.

“Members of the public have the option to object to the traffic order within six months of its start date, or the date of any changes that have been made during the first six months.”

The proposed parking restrictions are as follows:
