The ensemble are one of four bands up for the award, alongside Skye Youth Pipe Band, Dunoon Grammar Pipe Band and George Watson’s Pipe Band.

Corin MacLeod of Dornoch Pipe Band said: “We are so delighted to have been nominated for pipe band of the year!

“After a great season, playing in the Dornoch square throughout the summer it’s really lovely to hear someone has nominated us for the award.

“We saw huge crowds every week for our parades, lots of familiar faces and lots of visitors to the area coming out to watch us, which we are extremely grateful for.

“It’s a big commitment for band members to give up their Saturday nights through the summer, so seeing so many happy faces as we march down the street really makes a difference.

“Looking ahead, the band will celebrate its centenary in 2026. If we won this award, it would mean so much in the run up to that massive milestone!”

She added: “It means the world to have been shown so much support since we announced that we had been nominated.

“Seeing our community come together, to cheer us on, is wonderful. We’d love to make Dornoch proud by winning!”

Categories at the awards include Album of the Year, Musician of the Year, Scottish Pipe Band, Up and Coming Artist, Venue of the Year, Community Project of the Year, Music Tutor of the Year, Photographer of the Year, and Venue Technician of the Year.

The Scots Trad Music Awards will take place at Inverness Leisure Centre on St Andrew’s Day, Saturday 30th November 2024.

The awards will be broadcast on BBC ALBA from 9pm.
