Dornoch Area Community Council has appointed a new chairman following the shock resignation of long-standing incumbent Yvonne Ross.

News from the Northern Times.

Members agreed at the community council's AGM last Wednesday that Patrick Murray should take up the role of chairman.

His appointment means that he is now also the official Provost of Dornoch, a position which goes with the chairmanship.

It is still not publicly known why Mrs Ross, who was voted back onto the community council only last October with the second highest number of votes, decided to stand down.

She made her decision known in May and declined to comment when asked for her reasons by the Northern Times.

Her connection with the community council goes back years and tributes have been paid to her for the work she has undertaken on behalf of the area.

Mr Murray previously served as community council treasurer.
