Dornoch Cathedral congregation to vote on permanent minister after service on January 12
A permanent minister could soon be appointed to lead the congregation at Dornoch Cathedral.
The historic cathedral has been without a permanent minister since the departure of Rev Susan Brown in September 2021 after more than 23 years in the pulpit.
Rev Carol Anne Porter has since served as locum minister.
The Dornoch Firth Church of Scotland, under which the cathedral falls, has now announced that it is proposed that Rev Porter be appointed as permanent minister.
The congregation will vote on her appointment on Sunday, January 12.
The cathedral’s interim moderator, Alistair Drummond, said in a post on the church’s social media page: “At a meeting held at Dornoch on Saturday, December 14, the nominating committee chose the person who they propose to be minister of Dornoch Firth Church of Scotland.
“The name of the person proposed is Rev Carol Anne Porter.
“Arrangements have been made for Rev Porter to conduct public worship and preach as sole nominee in Dornoch Cathedral on January 12.
“Immediately after the service, there will be a vote on whether or not Rev Porter should be elected as the new minister of this congregation.
“Anyone whose name appears on the electoral register of this congregation of Dornoch Firth Church of Scotland shall be entitled to vote.”
