'More could easily have been sold' at Dingwall and Highland Marts sale as 'very unsatisfactory' number of ewes on offer
DINGWALL and Highland Marts Ltd today sold 506 sheep and four cattle.
Prime heifers (4) averaged 268.5p per kg (+19.7p) and sold to 273.0p per kg for a 545kg Limousin cross from Cullaird Farm, Scaniport and £1,729.20 gross for a 660kg Limousin cross also from Cullaird Farm, Scaniport.

Old season lambs (445) averaged 230.1p (-1.7p) and sold to 260.2p per kg for a pen of 44kg Beltex Crosses from Hillhead, Keith and £120 gross for a 54kg Cross also from Hillhead, Keith.
SQQ 25.5kg to 45.5kg (128) averaged 238.8p per kg.
Feeding Sheep (61) sold to £172 gross for a Texel Ewe from Kinnahaird Farm, Contin.
“The opening hogg sale of the year saw trade comparable with the last prime sale staged here. Well fleshed sorts are still keenly bid for but those lacking flesh met a hesitant enquiry. A very unsatisfactory number of ewes sold to a full company of buyers who were keen to obtain numbers. A brisk trade was had and many more could easily have been sold.”
